UB40 in Tucson 2024

Posted on February 15, 2024 by The Drive

The story of UB40 is no ordinary tale. These buddies from Birmingham, all from working-class backgrounds, skyrocketed to fame as the coolest reggae band worldwide. Despite some tough times and living off pocket change from unemployment benefits, they never lost hope. It all started in 1978 when they kicked off jam sessions in a local basement. You had Robin Campbell, his brother Ali, Earl Falconer, Brian Travers, James Brown, and Norman Hassan making up the crew. At first, they thought they were just a jazz-dub-reggae group, but as they brought in new faces like Michael Virtue and Astro, they became more than just musicians. They even named themselves after a jobless form! And while they rocked out, they also stood up against racism and the National Front, showing their true colors through activism and music.

UB40, Inner Circle and Third World make their way back to Tucson at the Ava on August 4th, 2024.
