This year’s championship is especially significant as it marks the first time the University of Arizona will host both the men’s and women’s national tournaments simultaneously, a milestone moment for a program with a 50-year legacy in the NWBA. Officially approved by the NWBA Board of Directors, the event brings together the top collegiate wheelchair basketball programs in the country, representing 12 universities nationwide. Arizona’s men enter as defending national champions on their home court, while elite programs like five-time defending champion Alabama headline the women’s field, setting the stage for one of the most competitive and historic tournaments in collegiate adaptive athletics.

This is not just a tournament. It is the premier collegiate wheelchair basketball championship in the country, bringing the top men’s and women’s programs to Tucson. The Arizona men’s team enters as the defending national champions after capturing the program’s first-ever national title last season. Now they return to the floor with a target on their back, and the rare opportunity to defend that title at home in front of the Wildcat community.

Alongside the men's team, the women’s team will compete for a national title of their own, making this a full showcase of elite adaptive athletics on one of college basketball’s most recognizable stages.

The Significance

The championships are sanctioned by the National Wheelchair Basketball Association and represent the highest level of intercollegiate wheelchair basketball in the United States. Arizona’s Adaptive Athletics program is widely regarded as one of the most respected and competitive in the nation. Hosting the championships at McKale signals national recognition of the program’s leadership, infrastructure, and competitive excellence.

Backing Excellence. Building Opportunity

Jim Click, The Jim Click Automotive Team and the Click Family Foundation have all long believed in investing in programs that elevate the Tucson community. His connection to Adaptive Athletics reflects more than sponsorship, it reflects values.

This championship weekend is a direct example of what long-term belief and support can build:

National-level competition hosted in Tucson
• Student-athletes competing at the highest level
• Inclusive excellence showcased in a historic arena
• A program that changes lives while winning championships

Jim Click’s support aligns with grit, perseverance, opportunity, and community pride. Adaptive Athletics embodies all four. When the defending national champions roll onto the McKale floor, they are not just representing Arizona. They are representing a community that believes in them. And supporters like Jim Click helped make that possible.

This event will draw national attention, visiting teams, families, alumni, and supporters to Tucson. It is both a competitive milestone and a civic moment.
