INTRODUCING THE DRIVE CAR: SOPHIA THE KARMANN GHIA!
The Drive Tucson is known for our originality and for being different from the rest. So of course we wouldn’t drive around town in any old truck or van. Nope, we chose this:
ABOUT THE CAR
Sophia is a 1965 Karmann Ghia convertible. This classic and restored vehicle is in beautiful “drive around” condition, having received a total restoration in 2013. Sophia has been garaged and driven lightly since, and kept continually maintained. Built on a VW frame, using a VW engine, the Karmann Ghia’s award-winning design was created by Italy’s Carrozzeria Ghia and produced from 1955-1974, virtually unchanged.
“Bragging rights” for the name go to Marsha Siegel and Bree Kishman, Marsha for first suggesting “Sophia” and Bree for first suggesting “Sophia The Karmann Ghia.” We had lots of other great name ideas, too, including Maybelline, Maxwell, and The Boomer Zoomer. Thanks to everyone who participated!
